Too Many Tops

Too Many Tops stands as a fascinating artifact from the golden era of 1998 adult cinema, courtesy of Hollywood Sales. Set against the storied backdrop of San Francisco, the premise leans into a humorous yet deeply relatable urban dilemma: the perpetual shortage of versatile partners. The narrative framing device cleverly anchors the runtime, beginning with Todd Stevens and Dino Phillips locked in an intense session of heavy making out and mutual oral pleasure. As pillow talk turns to recounting elaborate past trysts and fevered fantasies, the feature unfurls a series of vignettes that highlight the psychological negotiation inherent in queer dating. The stellar ensemble cast—featuring Anthony Ericson, Dean Rodney, Earl Utah, Frank Parker, Justin Damon, Lee Harvey, and Rocky Santangelo—brings palpable physical chemistry to each vignette, ensuring that the thematic debates over who takes the lead never overshadow the raw eroticism. Directorially, the framing captures the aesthetic grit and authenticity typical of late-nineties studio productions, celebrating tactile skin-on-skin contact without overly stylized filters. When the narrative circles back to the framing duo, Stevens and Phillips finally culminate their ongoing compromise in the grand finale, locking bodies and finishing each other off with absolute gusto.
